He was in a SPS trying to eat, so I am trying to make sure he's not a good acro crab or if he's a bad crab. In the event he's a bad one, he will be joining the sump crew. Anyone familiar with these guys? Thanks
He was perched in a Seriatopora colony, so I plucked it out and dunked it upside down in a container filled with tank water till he dropped out. I shook it a bit and had to give him a nudge.
Not a fan of crabs in my display. I would toss em in the fuge. They have big punchers for a reason. All Mithrax crabs are omnivores so when they do their job with the algae it's on to the next course!

Thanks for the link binford. I think it looks more like the Trapezia digitalalis... Coral Crabs - Specimen #1 . But it's hard to say from just a couple of pictures. I'm curious to hear what John thinks.
I knew I had one acro crab in the tank, but this guy seemed much bigger. Guess I hadn't seen him in a while. I am good at the crabs that are easy, with the hairy arms, the dark pinchers, the "hulk" look, etc, but this one seemed like it had that bad potential. Thanks for the help! The little bugger is back in his coral just in time for the holiday!

It sure could be Tom! Either way I would be having Mrs Binford toss that lil beast into the abyss or fuge! Yikes that is some pinchers. Crabs creep me out ! Can't believe people eat em!!! Yuck ! Skins just a crawling,crabs are my kryptonite,Mrs Binford deals with those nasty things. Kinda funny really,I've bagged seven bears ,tons of coyote,bobcats and deer with a just bow and arrow, show me a crab,lobster or crayfish and I am out of there !!! LOL

That's awesome... bear slayer that gets the creeps from crabs.
On a more serious note, as a rule I don't put crabs in my reef tanks either. Hermits, emeralds, arrows, no thank you. They either steal food when I'm feeding corals or worse. But rules are meant to be broken and I would break this one for a Trapezia crab or two. In fact, I've been thinking about getting one for quite some time.
