Default Unkown slug?????

I have 2 unknown slugs in my tank, I was wondering if anyone could identify for me?

I just witnessed one of the slugs shooting something out of itself, it looked like it was shooting smoke. I hope you could tell from the pics, it only comes out with the moon lights on. But the flash did a pretty good job of capturing him. Sorry he is on the top left of the rock.

looks like a stomatella... snail fam and safe. Most likely releasing sperm.

I agree. I believe they are similar to abalone (sp?) if not the same thing. I had them for a while. They never got bigger then maybe a 1/2". They all just kind of disappeared over time.

Species ID I'm no help, but the activity, I've been doing a lot of research on mollusk reproduction, and the 'smoke' is a common characteristic of many species, both the male and female will do this in hope of the eggs being fetilized and settling to grow before they become a snack for another critter or your skimmer scoops them up. The 'smoke' is nothing to worry over unless you had dozens releasing at the same time.

BTW that's a heck of a shot using a flash! Last time I tried using the flash on the tank I was seeing spots for hours and nothing good to show for the efforts. How'd you get away from the reflection?

Thanks for all the info! I just took the shot at an angle to the glass. So it would not directly flash back at the camera
