    Default Acanthastrea

I came across a green and orange Acanthastrea frag this weekend. I really liked it, but not knowing much about it I decided to go home empty-handed. I have done some research, and I still keep thinking about it and wondering... $70 for a 2"x4" frag? I've come across an eBay auction of a similar coloring but slightly smaller piece that ended at $28. I'm just not sure if the one I saw is worth it. Thoughts?

the pic of my avatar is a type of acanthastrea lord. they are some of my fav corals. but they can get very very expensive. I have seen some go for lilterally 600.00 a single polyp. I am on the waiting llist for some but not nearly as expensive. I will hopefully have them mid february :D

I have several of the A. lords I have a colony of about 20 that are red with green centers and an very bright Orange one that is forming 3 more heads. I cant wait for it to start to really take off.

The prices have come down substantially from what they were 18 months ago. They really aren't all that amazing a coral, and used to be considered an easy to care for coral for around $45. At some point, the market accepted the craze and was willing to pony up huge cash for mere polyps.

I've got a few in my prop section that were given to me in trade or as a gift, and they will go in my new tank soon. They can attack nearby corals during the night, so keep that in mind.

The price you saw was reasonable. The $28 deal on ebay would need another $45 added for overnight shipping (probably).

Greg, I really am not sure. The store's listing was "Acan Frag $69.99". After searching the net, I still cannot tell if it was an acan lord or enchinata. The piece had recently been fragged and was still recovering.

Marc, I appreciate your comments. I hope to make it back to the LFS in the next day or two, and I hope the frag is still there!
