Breeding Snowflake and Snowcasso Clownfish

if you're having the tanks with a bare bottom you really don't need a clean up crew besides a sponge and a syphon tube. :) your fish still look rather small. do you know hold old they are? It can take upwards to 3 years before a pair will form and become mature enough to breed. my pair of snowcassos are 2 years old and are just barely showing signs of breeding.

Thank you for your response. I've read some of your thread as well. I've been to MBI's website and looked around a little bit. The snowcasso's are between 4 - 6 months old. I realize I still have a while before they are ready, but that was also my intent. I have to leave this coming up June to go to Korea for a year. Our intent is for them to ready to breed by the time I get back or shortly after. It is more of an investment then anything right now. And thank you for the compliment. :thumbsup:

I have a decent size CUC in my 40 breeder from reefcleaners.org. I was thinking about emailing John at reefcleaners.org and seeing what he thought as well. All of this is my wife's idea, so I'm going to try and talk her into letting me put some LR and maybe a couple of corals in there as well until they are ready to breed. I haven't really planned on putting an anemone in there, just the clay pot was the original idea.

I started using seachem purigen to the tanks tonight. I am still dosing with Microbacter7 as well.

I acquired a new mated pair of clowns tonight when I bought a 29 gallon reef tank off of someone. He said that he thinks they have already had one clutch and that they hatched. He believes that he sucked out the fry doing a water change before realizing what he was doing. They are in my 40 gallon breeder right now, and they will most likely stay there. I'm just curious about something. My female ocellaris looked like she might be getting rid of eggs tonight while she was swimming. Every video I have seen of clowns laying eggs showed them laying them on something. Is it possible for them to discharge eggs while swimming to just get rid of them? If so, why would they do this?

was the ovidepositor down? she could have been just pooping. :S

Yes it was down, but it looked like they were dancing together and the male was chasing her as well. We have never seen them act this way as well. She also did it twice in a row. It didn't look like poop, but I guess it could've been. Maybe she had the "runs" lol.

What if the eggs were not completely developed?

On the 24th of November my clowns in my 40 breeder discharged eggs while swimming. Last night she did the "breeding dance" again lol. My wife saw the female do the same thing as last time and discharge eggs while swimming again. I watched her for awhile and didn't see it happen again though. They don't clean a certain part of the tank to lay eggs which confuses me. I am thinking of getting a smooth tile to put in there for her. They were both "jerking" around a lot, and acting like she was wanting to lay eggs. Maybe I just aint feeding her well enough to properly develop eggs yet? I just don't know what she is trying to do. All I do know is that this is the 2nd time she has done this since I have owned her lol.

So my wife and I are thinking of dividing the 29 gallon tank that is just kind of setting around right now for our three pairs of clowns. I am wanting to divide these using black acrylic, but I'm having a hard time finding some. This would set up behind a false wall behind my 40 gallon that has a 14 gallon tank underneath it. I would probably put a bigger tank underneath for the sump. The sump will be for the 29 gallon and my 40 gallon breeder DT that has softies in it for coral. What would be a good size sump for 69 gallons of water volume in order to keep the water quality up? My current stand is approx 36" long x 17" wide x 27" tall inside. I might be able to convince my wife to let me build a new stand for the 29 gallon since it is just sitting on a metal stand that came with the tank.
