The rock is super neat but very dense to the point that it has very little biological filtration properties. It would basically consider my tank void of LR if I had only this in the display. But I would load up the sump with "real" LR for filtration. You also have to be careful of rock contaminants. They an leach stuff like iron. I am going to have mine tested before use (if I go that route) but a simple sample could still miss the presence of contaminants. I would soak the rock in saltwater over a period of time and test for release of anything impurities. They could be a pain in the booty much like a plastic plant would be. I'm not sure.

One word for larger tanks and shy fish... Dithering fish (okay that's two), but we've found that nothing brings fishout of hiding better than a fistfull of green chromis or similar types of fish.
When those who would be shy see the others school up and cruise the tank it draws the shy ones out a bit more, sends a message to them that all is safe.
We had a bakers dozen of them in the 180 and it really made a tremendous difference in the attitutes of the rest of the fish, as soon as the actinics would come on the chromis were all out frolicking about and all the others would come out to play as well. They really brought the tank to life. Besides it was cool to see the tangs, angels, and blennies joining in the eratic zooming around the tank with them, that and nobody ever missed a meal, they always know when it was time to eat, looked like feeding time in a pihrana tank in the movies.
