Default hyper salinity Sx and Sx

What are the signs and symptoms of hyper salinity. I have a false perc that is kind of looking like hes skinny, and turning kind of grayish white on top of his head. Almost like a white/gray coating. I measured salinity and it came back a little high this was possibly due to some evap as I had to add about 2 gals to the tank today. The measured salinity came back @ 1.027, and I knocked it back down to around 1.022 with RO DI. Im just wondering if he had too much salt, and is exuding it through his skin hence the sickly appearance, and the coating he also appears stressed. and wont eat !!.... what do you guys think ?

1.027 is just slightly higher than Natural Sea-Water, averages 1.025-1.026 for most reef areas (99% that is accurate), it's doubtful the elevated salinity was the cause or that it would do any harm.

With that said, changing the SG up or down rapidly will likely cause more harm than good.... the SG may have crept up through evaporation, that was a gradual thing that happened over a span of at least days, it should be lowered in the same fashion, over time to reduce stressing any inhabitants. Inverts are particularly sensitive to dramatic swings of most anything in the water column.

Reefgeek, this site should be able to help you diagnose it properly. Good luck!
