I'm curious,How long does everyone wait to add fish when they're setting up a new tank?

I voted 4 months, its hard to be patient when setting up a reef but it sure pays off.My most succesful tank so far was my old 40gal,I waited almost 5 months before introducing fish. The population of infauna(amphipods,mysis,worms,etc..)in this tank was very high.Often, people forget that pods are algae grazers. If you don't allow them to establish a population, you don't get the added benefit of all those algae grazers cleaning your rock.My 75 has been up and running now for about 8 weeks and its amazing the amount of pods in the tank. Its gonna be hard to hold out for another 2 months before adding fish but IMO,patience is the best approach.

I did 3 months. 1 month of cycle and 1 month of critters. Fish were purchased put in QT for a month, not by choice, but by ich prevention. I see pods enjoying life in the tank, I have a great population in my ref enjoying the cheato and making apperances in the main tank.
The nice thing to know is that if I screw this up, I know what is for dinner.

On a completely new tank, 6-8 weeks for the cycle, then another month or so before adding any fish.

    Default Waiting

I missunderstood the question. I thought the question was how long between one fish to another. To respond to the right question I wait at least two months and see how conditions are. I agree it's hard to be patient be the payoff is worth it.
