The seahorses hitch to the macros now. I was thinking of adding a large fake coral for them to hitch to right in the middle of the tank untill the macros grow a little taller. I plan to add some more macros. The Red feather kelp will go in the middle and it grows very tall. Sadly, the red feather kelp is expensive. 30.00 for a small frag. If I want a nice long piece it's gonna cost me a lot more.

Looks like I found the right place to find out about sea horses. I'm new to salt water and never did fresh water, but my son wants sea horses so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. thanks for thread - great info.

We are all in this for the same reasons..and YOU (and your son) should be able to benefit from OUR mistakes and make this a more enjoyable (and neat bonding) experience for you and your family.
Now... about seahorses... LEARN! :) 'Cause it may be easier to give them "nemo" first..and then grow into sygnathids.
Read these forums, any forum about seahorses on other, trusted, proven boards (like www.seahorse.org) and have fun on your journey.

I do love my seahorses, but at times I often wonder if they are good or evil. They can be trying at times and I have to wonder, what was I thinking? Apparently I wasn't thinking because a pet rock would have been so much easier, less expensive, and less nerve racking!
Sorry, just a little frustrated humor......
Listen to David.....he is very experienced and knows everything :). There are a few others here (seahorsedreams, saxman, reef_angel) who know alot about sea horses. I myself am not an expert. I'm learning day by day, and I always will be.
Be prepared to be a slave to the seahorses. They own you, you do not own them. Forget vacations, trips, time off, and lazy days. You don't get any with seahorses. Their illnesses are not easy to cure, and they can die quickly. After all I have been thru with my seahorses, I don't think they are for everyone.
Good luck with you research and please think it thru before you decide to get them. Seahorses can not be an impulse buy. Trust me on that one.
