    Default Powder Blue Tang Journal

well since i am taking a huge risk on purchasing a powder blue tang i thought i would do a journal. Wish me luck and thanks for the support others who have done so already.

Day 1: added to qt tank. has been in our shop for a month now and had great colors and no visible ich or infections swimming great and very live.

Day 2: Live in the morning when lights turned on. Ate mysis, one quick bite at red seaweed with garlic but not much more than that that i have seen. Later in the day hid alot due to possible stress, or not knowing tank. dosed cupramine. turned of lights early to try to calm down stress. no visual ich.

Day 3: hid a little in the morning, been swimming and hiding occasionally later in the day, Ate flakes, pellets alittle seaweed but should be eating more...will be lowering the seaweed lower in the tank and hopw he eats more. no visible ich.

How big is your quarantine tank?

I've always been curious about how big a QT people use for a fish like this that needs lots of space, since it's often commented that not having enough space will stress out certain fish, esp tangs.

+1 Sir Patrick - Great thread idea!

Mines a standard 29, 30x12x18, it is alittle on the small side, but being in a small 15 gallon for a month, this should be acceptable...i do wish I could have bigger its just this wras my old tank and I can't spend money on a bigger one as I have barely any space and mama won't be so happy

    OK, update day.
Day 4: Added dose of cupramine as directions listed on the bottle. Ate PE Mysis and flakes, not the seaweed put in. No visible ich and looking very healthy and active.
Day 5: Feed him and the other fish in the display a good mix of frozen prime reef, PE mysis, and bloodworms. Started to eat seaweed for the first time, fell in love. No visible ich and swimming a ton and very healthy looking.
Day 6: Fed him PE Mysis, and seaweed, ate it all very well no leftovers. No visible ich swimming a ton.

He seems to be very healthy these past days and i can stick my face up to the front of the QT tank and he will swim right in front of me. When my hand is in the tank he doesnt hide and will swim right nest to my hand.

Are you removing the tang for cupramine treatments or are you dosing directly into the tank? I ask because I notice he's not in the "typical" QT tank that's bare with some PVC. Are you concerned that the cupramine with be absorbed by the rock and sand?

I did read about that...i put him in the tank before I got the cupramine and if I took out the sand nitrates would be everywhere and pretty sure it would kill him. So I'm aware its a picking up the cupramine but it seems to be doing well
