Prepairing to lay eggs?

My B/W Occy has grown a lot since i've had it.
Noticed today that it was cleaning a particular spot on a rock today over and over and over and i know this is something a clown does when they plan on laying eggs...

could it be that she is thinking about laying eggs or just being a clown...

will a female lay eggs without a mate around? cause for the past couple months my two clowns have kinda lived on opposite ends of the tank.

I am saying, with the spot clearing, its possible for the clown at the end of the tank to take interest, lol!!!

Yes, that is definitely behavior that clowns exhibit before laying eggs. It's not impossible for clowns to lay eggs without a mate, however, it doesn't sound as though yours have paired up yet. You'll know when they start spending a lot of time together. If / when they do pair up the male will take over the nest preparation tasks and the female will guard it. + 1 with Sir Patrick on watching that spot. If she does lay eggs it is likely they won't get fertalized, however, it's a promising start. Fair warning if you decide to try and raise the baby clowns you're embarking down a whole fun and interesting hobby of its own. Good luck and happy reefing!!
