Default reef fish

sorry if this is the wrong section, i wasn't sure where to post it. a post earlier have me thinking and realizing i don't care much for reef fish. if the fish doesn't serve a purpose in my reef tank , like eating algae and unwanted pest they usually don't interest me much. don't get me wrong i can appreciate the beauty of reef fish. some people will think i'm crazy for saying this, but i think cichlids and fancy plecos beat reef fish anyday. does anyone else feel the same way about reef fish?

Dont take this the wrong way.... why are you in the saltwater hobby? Is it just because of the corals or what? I mean you can buy the fake corals (sure not the same thing and some arent even slightly realistic) and put them in a chiclid/pleco type tank Im not like trying to knock you or anything like that, or even saying to do this idea, just wondering if maybe that would be a better option for you.

I actually prefer my fish over corals, and wouldn't trade mine for any other type of fish.... although I do agree there are some very sweet chiclids I wouldnt mind having lol.

Another thing too would be maybe you just haven't found the right reef fish for you... there are many different types of reef fish, that come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Alot of people like wrasses because many have alot of color in a single fish, and provide alot of action and movement. Before you give up on reef fish, do some searching online and in LFS and hopefully you will find something that you really like Goodluck

No offense taken, i love the corals. i love to see that 1" frag turn into a muti branched centerpiece, or that 1 polyp grow to cover a whole rock. i love tue color blends and different shapes of corals. i know it's an opinon thing but i still havn't came across a a reef fish that i say to myself, man i got to have that. too me if the fish isn't helping the reef than it's just aother hungry mouth to feed. lol

Understandable... but in an esscence any fish that isnt bothering/eating your corals is helping your corals, as fish poo = coral food

I love the fish! Nothing better in the reef tank than a few nice colored fish swimming around it! At least thats what the wife thinks, lol!

But really-

I would take a FOWLR over a similar sized fresh tank any day!
