    Default StarFish??

My LFS has a nice Red starfish that is roughly 6" in diameter for $30. I haven't noticed any tanks with many starfish in them. Are they a neusence? I would like to add the color to my tank, but I'm afraid it will smother my Xenia trees or green star polyps. Any advice on starfish in your tanks?

I'll have to get the correct name. I trust my LFS owner that he wouldn't sell it to me if it wouldn't be reef safe for my system. However, I didn't know if there were problems with Starfish even if they are considered reef safe.

Some of them can be VERY difficult if not almost impossible to keep alive.

No thats not what I meant at all. Some stars are VERY easy to keep also, and can be a great addition to your clean up crew. Just make sure to research the type of star you are looking at to be sure you can care for it.

Easy is what I'm looking for. I'll do some research tomorrow and see if even "I" can keep it alive. It is a beautiful specimen at the store.
    On another subject:
I'm looking at trading my 2 blue damsels, 1 4" to 5" Foxface, and 1 pajama cardinal in at the LFS for 6 to 8 small schooling fish. Any suggestions on a fish like that? I'm also looking at a firefish goby. Anyone have any info on Goby's?
The only other fish in my tank would be a Yellow Tang, Blue Hippo Tang, Clown fish, and a flame hawkfish.

I've noticed that some of the websites say in their acclimation instructions that you need to acclimate verrrrry slowly....like 6 hours. The research I've seen on starfishes indicates that if they are not properly acclimated they die slowly, so if your LFS didn't acclimate the new correct way you might be getting a fish that dies in a month. Does your LFS guarantee at all?

I'm not certain about a gaurentee. I do know that he slow drip acclimates all his animals. He will also hold them for a couple of weeks for you, so if it dies in his store then he would have to gaurentee it then.

I found out that it is a red Linkia Starfish. I did some research and even though these seem to be more hardy than most, I've decided not to risk it. I have a lot to learn before I take on a difficult species.
