    Default rpalt1's new obssesion

Hi all. I'm from Long Island N.Y. and was asked to post a pic by jim on this thread. My 29 gal running a reef octopus bh-1000ss skimmer, 1 korilla pump, a marineland hob filter with chemipure elite, and a corlife t5ho 4x31w fixture with 2 10,000k and 2 actinic water: amm 0, nitrite 0, ph 8.0 and the nitrates at 80-100 {hate api reading] I did a 10% w/c this past weekend and my duncan frag took exception to it but today its almost fully open. Just having trouble getting a handle on nitrates I had a reef about 6yrs ago and never had a nitrate level above 20. I'm thinking of putting together either a hob turf scrubber or a hob refugium to help. I had to switch from instant ocean regular salt to reef crystals and I think the change stressed my duncan frag. I also have a green BTA that was given to me, and it seems to be happy at the moment but I definately have to get nitrates down I thought about using nitra sorb until I get hob scrubber/fuge builtt Any help would be greatly appreciated Rich

Rpalt1 what are your plans for your tank? If you plan on getting SPS someday I would suggest against the anemone. I love them but I have spent the last year trying to get my BTA's out of my tank. They have killed $100's in coral. They stay in one spot for a long time but one day they just up and move stinging everything in their path. Just wanted to warn ya if that was your plan. It would be much easier to get out now. I have a love/hate relationship with that creature

Eventually its going to be lps softie mix. I only have 4x31w of light. Probably enough for sps but i like lps orals better. The bta will probably go if he wanders to much but for now i'll let it be.I'm just suprise how well its doing considering nitrate level but that will be remedied soon i hope

Thk all It's a great hobby to have. I found a local reef addict who is in the process of starting his own internet store and i stopped by to see what he's got. He's got alot of nice frags starting at $10 a piece so by christmas i'm hoping to add a few things. I put deposits on a couple of items for now so when i get water quality a little better I'll pick them up. The nice thing is he's only 15mins from my house
