Im super poor but I wanted to get in on the contest, so my dad's a sprinkler contractor so I have all the PVC I want, I found an old 10g that I was going to use for a refugium (drilled!!), and a spare pump and this is what I came up with.

Good idea. Can we have more details?? How are you going to keep rain water out, what are you doing for lighting, what if bugs get in it???

I had to switch pumps 3 times ( I have 3 small ones in my 90 at the moment), and had to use the most powerful one, because the other 3 would not make it up. If you notice in the last picture its under a roof so it will only get "direct" sun from 1pm to 6pm. I was thinking of a ventillated cover.

BTW That was a wet test and it did not turn out so good I was losing alot of water in leaks So I'll get back to you guys if I get finished putting it together.

Wow! My first thought was WTF? But this is a sweet idea. I'm assuming you are located where the temp is above freezing, unlike it is here! I once read about some people in Florida that had outdoor saltwater ponds... very cool!

One thought, could you locate the sump up any higher? That would help with the head loss.

I really can't wait to see what happens here!
