Default Getting ready for the rules for the nano contest

Welcome to the Nano contest forum. We can't really call it a build-off because we're not all starting from scratch with a rigid set of rules. This contest will be more of a friendly nano tank competition and just about everyone can play as long as their display tank is the right size. I still need to bounce these ideas off of Dakar and Reef_Angel, but here's the tentative rules that I've come up with from previous discussions. A finalized version will be posted, well, when they're finalized.

    Tentative Rules:

    1. Display size no larger than 30 gallons
    2. Sump no larger than display, and not shared with another tank.
    3. Tentative start date of December 1st, not sure about the end date (open for discussion)
    4. Contest ends probably mid-summer of 2006
    5. Mandatory build photos if the tank is starting from scratch
    6. At minimum, monthly tank pictures (the more the better) along with tank updates
    7. Detailed descriptions of equipment.

What other ideas to people have? I'm open to discussion.

    Thanks!
    Eric

Eric, that sounds like you have got it pretty much covered. I would do a monthly update for sure and I would have the participants have to include at least 2 to 3 pics of the tank, so the judges and everyone else can really get a good look at these tanks.
now this contest is open to those who allready have nano's??? If so I would make them post pics of their tanks when the contest begins. So the judges and everyone else can see how they progessed through the alotted time.

    Good luck to all

Do you have a starting date set yet?
It is our responsibilities, not ourselves, that we should take seriously.

I've got a couple of questions:

    (1) Are the tentative rules going to become the final rules?

    (2) Where will we post our updates & pics? Since my tank has been set up since July, I was thinking about adding a new page to my website specifically devoted to the growth of my tank from the beginning up to the start date. Perhaps we could have blogs here on CR dedicated to the contest...

Unless people have some problems with the 'tentative' rules, they'll become the final rules. I'm open for feedback, so if anyone has anything to add or change, let's discuss.

I like sweetpeas idea about the blogs! I am sure Dakar and Angel will create a specific slot for the nano contest. I am sure Perpetual will have a final draft of the rules for everyone. I think this is going to be fun, I am really excited to see the growth and maturity of all of the tanks!!!!1

    Default judgeing suggestion

I think that progress should determin the winner. I will be starting a 10 gal nano inf Jan. or Feb. I will not be able to compete with a tank that is six months or a year old. Better idea maby there could be sub catagorys(sp) for pre established and from scratch tanks. just an idea though.

    I'm jojo22 but didn't realize I wasn't logged in.
