Amano Shrimp breeding

I realize that this is not quite saltwater aurarium related but as you will see below saltwater in an aquarium is involved. For those of you out there that are unfamiluar with Amano shrimp. They are freshwater shrimp that spend the larva stage of their life in saltwater.

Here goes.
I have had this particular Amano shrimp about 5 months. I bought her along with about 5 others fro a local fish store and they have been in a 29-gallon well-planted tank. About 5 weeks ago I noticed all the shrimp grouped together in a corner. Then a month ago I one of the females with eggs. Having read about breading and raising Amano shrimp (see link: http://mikes-machine.mine.nu/breeding_yamato.htm), I started preparing.

Set Up
I am diverging from what the guy in that article did, so we will see.
I am using a 5.5-gallon tank with a Whisper 10 filter. I have found a sponge that slips over the filter in-take so the babies don

Good work on the breeding. It is always nice to see stuff being reproduced in captivity. If you don't mind a suggestion, I would personally put a little extra carbon in the filter. IMO when you are feeding that much in a small tank, and they is no other way around it in your case, you will end up with spikes in your levels. A little extra carbon might help control that a little better and might help get rid of that milky water. Either way keep us post.

5-29-2006 Day 4 - Lara are still alive and seem to be growing. The water is clearing up. I'm using the standard filter cartridge with carbon but if there seems to be a need I'll add extra.

5-30-2006 Day 5 - The water is nice and clear now and the larva seem to be getting biger and stronger. There is no way to verify this but I would guess that losses are small, say 20%. now you might think that 20% is a lot but concidering how many hached and how confined they are I think this is good so far. And remember this figure is just a number I pulled out of the air.
