    Default Another clam question?

Here's a doozy for someone. Been watching/waiting for my clam to attach to the LR. Earlier today I saw many thread like things attached to the rock. Cool right, she's starting and likes where she's at. But to my dismay this seemed to bring out the bristle worms. I just went and checked on the clam and no longer see anything sticking to the LR. But I did see the Worms where the threads once were. I'm thinking this can't be good and need some sort of a fix.
    Any ideas or suggestions??

    Thanks.

Tough to say why you're seeing this. It's generally believed that bristle worms only eat a dead or nearly dead clam, so I doubt (and hope) that this is not what's happening.

Here are a few other possibilities...
Coincidence: the worms may just be seeking cover under the clam.
Irritation: the presence of the worms is bothering the clam and keeping it from laying down byssal threads.

I'm not sure if there's a fix. Mostly because I'm not sure that there is a problem. If the mantle is out and the clam is acting normal then I wouldn't worry.

Thanks Tom. The clam is doing great! Maybe the worms are just hiding under her again this a.m. I see her putting a *foot* down lol
