when I had the exact same thought, hey hes cute lets take him home, countless cleaner and peppermint shrimp, my beloved midas blenny, and almost got my spotted mandarin, I decided it was time to get him out of there....all i can say is good luck :-/ they are fast little boogers. i literally had to take out every piece of rock and use two nets, biggest pain ive ever had, im sure someone here will have a better suggestion just how i did it. may the force be with you!

Given the smaller size of your tank I would just take the rock work out and catch it.

I trapped crabs without much problem. Not sure if the lobster would fall as easily, but they do in the ocean... Get a 16 oz plastic bottle, and cut it in half. Turn the top upside down, like a funnel, inside the bottom. Throw some meaty food inside, and place it near rockwork. Then, go to bed.
In the morning, with luck (yours not his), you should have a well fed lobster with nowhere to go.

Well I have a sure fire way but it is a little extreme. Put your finger in his hole. When he clamps down pull it out fast. Not really a problem as it is a natural move. He will come right out of the tank with your hand. (it is ok to swear at this point)

I learned this the hard way with my Hawaiian Reef Lobster that I keep in my sump. In fact, I have done it twice now. Not that I really wanted to. One time I flung him clear acrossed the room. After you stop bleeding (about 20 minutes) you will be happy you did not tear your tank apart.

If that is too tough for you you can poke a nylon in the hole. He will clamp down on that and get stuck on it. Your only worry is the claw coming off as you pull him out, but if that happens you will have solved your problem until he molts.
