Hermit crabs and snails.

I bought about 15 snails the other day, and I noticed the unique pattern on the snail shells, now the hermit crabs have been wearing these shells, is it more likely that the snails died, or is it that the hermit crabs have been killing the snails for a shell upgrade??

May be both. Do you have shells for them to upgrade to with out killing the snails?

Well, there are about 10 different empty shells visible in my tank, but maybe they are not the right sizes...
