#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#my freind also hasa 75 gallon but it is just starting up maby 5 or 6 months, he just bought a bunch of (Llynasas) not shur how to spell it. snails and turbograsers. he says like the next day they just started dieding. He has a anemone also and some corals that are doing perfict and all of his fish are healthy as ever. the turbos try to climb the glass but it allmost looks like their shells are to heavy for them and now most all of the snails are dead. the big problem now that he has is to try and find where all the urrowing snails went and get them out befor it gets really bad. if anyone could shead some light on why these snails might be doing this it would help loads. we have done many full range water tests and everything is up to code nothing is off its all the way it should be we even toke a water sample to the LFS but they came up with the same results he has not medicated befor either so there was no medications in the water. were kinda stumped wondering if any of you could help us.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
someone at at f.s. told me that snails are not the brightest bulbs on the tree nor ar they good for righting themselves up when they are on their backs and they just die. can't explain why but they just do that... if they fall off the glass and can not rightthemselves then that might be the reason if this is untrue i don't know but i have had snails that i found dead on their backs but the hermits are trying out their new homes soon enough
Snails are sensitive to both salinity fluxes and PH spikes... have him test for both 3 times within a 24 hour period. Another cause could be that the tank has been treated with a copper additive or something in it has.
There's nowhere else I'ld rather be... unless, of course, you're buying
Did he get the snails at the LFS or mail order? I am guessing maybe poor acclimation (which could result in a salinity spike as Repto mentioned) or maybe poor handling(hi temps) in transit. Seems like the tank is fine with the exception of the some dieing snails
