Octopus

Hello everyone. i currently have a 120 gallon full reef and am thinking about setting up a smaller tank for an octopus. Now i know you have to have a fully sealed tank as they can escape through anything but i am wondering if there is anything else i need to know. also, what are the best kinds to get? one that stays fairly small and isnt impossible to keep. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks

you can get a bimac and they are good to get. they are hard to keep and their life span is very short.

and they require very very good water quality. they are fairly inexpensive to get if you could get one local that would be the best way. they are very delicate shippers

Also a sealed tank is not an absolute, I have read of others lining the top few inches on the in and outside of the tank with fake grass and the suction for grip is then broken.

the grass is going to deter not prevent. you want to have something the covered the top. a fne egg crate works very well or even a screen and make sure yo have some weight on it. they are INCREDIBLY strong. I have handled them when I have dove in the past and its amazing how strong they are. they are very very intellegent creatures. A good friend of mine works at the Seattle aquarium and he is one of 2 people in charge of the bivalves there and he says they will recognize which handler is in the water with them by their pulse and their body temperature. very very smart animals.
