Default is this a problem

here is a clam(?) from the same friend im housing stuff till his tank is ready. it looks like it is biting the rock, its hinge is on the top side under the skeletons, and opens on the bottom, only a very little though. it also appears that it cant open any mor if it tried. has it grown into the rock? it hasnt moved a long as ive had him and never opens much more than this. any opinions?

I believe that is actually an oyster(???) However, in any case, a lot of clams and oysters will bore down into a solid rock structure and live quite happily.

*pointing up* Yep...he's right.. they bore..and will also become more and more encrusted with "stuff". To a point where you may only see what looks like a crack in the rock. No worries. They are fine. Great lil additions to your filtration too.
