Default snail outbreak

anyone ever had a snail frenzy ? I have seen about 200 baby snails (looks to be margarita and turbo mix) they are really keeping the glass clean, but there are tons of em'. I'm wondering if this is seasonal ? or just a fluke.

We did have some warm weather out here and my tank climbed a few degrees (before I bought a chiller) and Im wondering if that did it ?

Last, will they keep themselves in check ? OR is there a snail eater out there

This is pretty normal and a sign of a healthy tank. I won't worry about reducing the population. For what ever reason the population seems to balance itself.

I wouldnt contriubte the higher temp, if anything a higher temp can be more harm than good for your inverts. but its good to hear you have a good clean up crew.

Nothing to worry over, as the system continues to mature the population will continue to grow... unlike FW tanks, I don't think they can overrun the tank, once food becomes scarce the population will slow down again. It was really interesting to break out the flashlight at night in the 180g tank.... there were litterally 1000's of the baby snails all over the place, they were seldom visable during the photoperiod but shortly after the lights went down they got to work, best guess babies are smart enough to hide from predation.

If you find the need to thin out the population please put me at the top of the list of people to notify!!! I need a lot more snails!

Unhappy Snails

I would sure like some as I just came home from the hospital and have a major "green alge bloom". I can't drive or anything so I guess I will have to pass.
