Starfish

my tank has plenty of algae and pods, but i think i might wait untill i get a bigger tank. i might get a bigger tankin the summer. then i'd have to let that tank mature...

i think it will be a while until i get a starfish, or much of any new things.

i might accually try a serpent star if it helps clean the tank good

We have 2 serpent stars in our big tank and one of them has nearly become a pet. He comes out anytime he smells food and is really active. We dropped a frozen cube of food in hoping the tang would pick on it at it's leisure but the serpent scooted over about a foot and snagged it! He put the entire FROZEN cube in his mouth. We thought for sure we would have a dead serpent in the morning but noooooo. He came out the next night and snagged a huge piece of nori (that we were hoping the tang would enjoy LOL). Here's a pic of the little thief. His name is Cecil the Seasick Seastar Serpent.

how big do they get?

ROFLMAO!! I remember "Beany and Cecil!" Watched it every Saturday! Lord I'm feeling old now.. Bet we are the only ones who know who Cecil is!! That and Winky Dink and his Magic Crayons!

are they reef safe? i was down at a fish store yesterday to find out about my dead anemone, and they told me serpent stars get big and then are not reff safe. also they can eat your fish.

I have heard of them getting big and becoming fish eaters but seems to me that if you feed him well he isn't going to eat your fish! Kinda like the sharks not eating the other fish in the exhibit.. tho sometimes they do...
I guess it depends Ours hasn't touched the fish.. though I'm pretty sure my gobies ate 40bux worth of nudis and maybe a black and white jester goby.. I miss that little guy.. and Mr Betta has had peppermint shrimp appetizers!... so seems to be 6 of 1 and 1/2 dozen of the other....
