    Default Turtle Grass

I got 5 shoots of it today and planted it in my refugium. The first layer of sand is caricbsea special grade arragonite and the top 2 inches is carribsea oolitic sand. I am adding Iron to the system now as well. I added some 12K and 6700K T5's to my tek fixture (6 bulbs) because I have read this stuff is high light. I also added a couple of conchs, a dozen turbo grazers and a dozen strombus to the refugum. Hoping it will turn into its own biotope and I can maybe add pipefish or a seahorse down the road.

It's a little late now but I found that puttin laterite under the sand helps to avoid the need to dose iron.

So, cool. Someday I'd like to set up a sea grass refugium. I'm looking forward to updates on this one!

Mike something else I thought of later last night. Is this new sand or old sand?

If this is new sand you're probably going to have a tough time getting them to take. Seagrass is a true plant unlike caulerpa. It actually draws most of it's nutrients from the roots and not out of the water column. To do well you typically need to have an established sand bed.

Chad it is old sand There is a lot of stuff in there for it to use. I am dosing Iron daily and now that there are fish in the main tank to poop the refugium should get fed. I have a couple conchs and other snails in the refugium as well. I might add some cardinals to help with nutrients for the turtle grasses.

Once it settles in I will shoot some. Things are still a wreck downstairs after the crash. I am working on that back room where the sea grass tank is right now. Just checked PO4 and I am at 0.06 so things are cycling and looking good.

I will get some pics tommorow. I got a good variety of things from this place. All of it came in excellent shape and there was a lot for the money.
