    Default Are Barnacles Poisonous?

So I was at a bait shop and was talking to the dude that works there. Some how we got into convo on barnacles and he said that he was wondering if they were poisonous. He wants to keep them with some of the live bait but was told that they are poisonous.

    Is this true?

    Good question!

I dont know the answer, but am following along.

I got some barnicals from florida, a couple years ago, and put them in my tank. Didnt take any care/caution in handling, and just dropped them in my tank. They didnt live a real long time, dwindled kinda quick, but never experienced any negative reactions/results, to me or my fish/reef.

Looking forward to more info myself.

Every thing I've read on them mentions nothing about them being poisoners. Some countries even eat them. But they can be detrimental to the equipment. It's called bio-fouling. Which it the undesirable accumulation of algae, plants, animals on wet surfaces. Otherwise they will attach themselves to things like our pumps and possibly destroying them.
They won't hurt your friends bait tank. They most likely won't live long. But do tell him to be careful as the Barnacles shell is very sharp.

    That's all I know

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Next time I'm in there for bait I'll let him know.
