They grow as a mass of individual small tubeworms, sometimes totaling over 100 in a single clump. Their parchment-like tubes will adhere to bits of rock. This helps to anchor the clump, which will usually be found in a shaded area of the reef.
Hey Tom,
To be honest, in the few times we've gotten them, we haven't kept any at the shop long enough to personally provide long term care and see growth etc. The presumption would be that food shouldn't be an issue with the varieties of quality concentrated phytoplankton available these days. Anybody out there personally cared for these particular dusters long term in an average reef aquarium?

Thanks for the info Maxi.

I should have been more specific... Are these the same dusters that can be found popping out of the sand bed in reefs and refugiums? In the shop I recall the top tank across from the seahorse tank has/had them. Someday I'd like to have that in my tank and thought if these reproduce they might get me that result.

I see. Not the same as the ones typically popping out of the sand beds that you would have seen here. The 144 half round reef that we set up early on had a ton of the ones you're thinking of in it.
