Default Preuss Pets Saltwater Department Bagging Olympics - Spring 2011

We've put the marine department staff through a training exercise recently that we thought you'd all get a kick out of.

In efforts to encourage optimal fish catching and coral bagging technique to minimize stress upon the animals and supply you with the best livestock possible, we divided our marine staff into teams of two, with one more senior staff member, paired with a more junior staff member. This team of two was given a list of items to catch including but not limited to the following:

    - A specific wrasse out of a 75 gallon tank full of live rock
    - A specific wrasse out of a 20 gallon tank full of corals
    - A euphyllia (hammer coral in this case)
    - Some snails, crabs, corals etc.

Each staff member was timed for how long it took to gather everything, tightly tie the bags, and labeling them properly for scanning at the counter. They were given penalties for any errors including mislabels, stress caused to corals... For example, the euphyllia handled only by the plug it was attached to and not the living tissue, as well as getting it to retract some before bagging it. The wrasse in the coral tank caught without endangering the corals it was swimming amongst.

Finally the times of the junior and senior staff times were paired up for a total team time.

    Here's the teams:

    Jake and Austin
    Steve and Dustin
    Wayne and Bridget
    Sam and Karl
    Shayne and Jessie

    Results -

Sam and Karl put up the best team time, and both bagged everything perfectly so had no penalties.

Jake put up the best individual time.

Honorable mention for staff members with no penalties were - Sam, Karl, Wayne, and Steve.

Finally, Dustin - our newest staff member gets the rookie of the year award with the best time of the 'junior' staff - coming just over a minute shy of putting he and I in front of the winning team of Sam and Karl. Excellent effort Dustin!

We had a lot of fun doing this, and plan on doing something similar once a quarter. Maybe next time, we'll announce the teams ahead of time and do sort of a stat tracker here on the forum.

Congratulations again to Sam and Karl - Bagging Olympics Spring 2011 CHAMPIONS!

    Steve
