I dont know the right way to add a lot of sand to my tank

I just upgraded from a 29 gallon to a 75 gallon tank. I barely had enough sand to cover the bottom. So, now I got 3 new bags of sand, and i wondered how am I supposed to add it in the tank without disturbing evrything in there?? I just added these fish and critters a few days ago, and 2 today. So, I am reluctant to stress them out.

So, do I just go ahead and dump it all in there, or take all the fish out and leave them in the 5 gallon bucket long enough to add the sand?

To help avoid a major sandstorm, you could get a length of PVC pipe (tall enough to stick up out of the water), place it upright on the sand bed, pour the new sand into the top of the pipe, and slowly lift it up to gently release the sand. Repeat in different areas of the tank to cover the bottom. This method could help keep the fish from getting too stressed out.

Good idea Tracy, the only thing to add to that is to be sure you rinse the sand as thoroughly as possible... washing sand may seem absurd, but it will really help cut down on the sandstorm effect if you ca able to remove most of the finer particles.

Rinse Rinse Rinse. The difference is huge. The first 30lbs of sand for my tank was just dumped in. I took 3 days till I could even see the rock in my tank. The next 30lbs was rinsed quite well and placed in gently. It was a little cloudy overnight. Huge Huge difference.
