Doing a water change on the 20g and possibly filling it up with SW tonight.
If you look at the first picture under Step 3. That thing with the red and black hoses coming off of it.

Well tore down the 8g biocube and went with a 20g H. Less talk more pics!

This is correct, if you wire them in series you will be splitting your 12v. So 6v to each fan... wich some do on purpose to reduce noise.
low voltage = lower noise.
Thought id share some pics of the stand i built for my BC8, made out of some 3/4" plywood, and 1/2" plywood for the sides/shelves. Trimmed with red oak, and painted black.
