    Question Nooby to SPS

    Hi CR Reefers!

I'm now expanding my love for corals into the vast array of the SPS world. I have no experience in keeping them. But have been reading reading and reading as much as I can about their care and requirements. Yet there are so many different types.

So what I'm looking for are suggestions for this nooby. The more easier to keep as I would hate to kill anything just because of ignorance. I can read all I want but to me there's nothing better then the words from the experienced keeper.

    Thanks a bunch!

first off you need that ro/di machine to start off right. lighting of either t5 or metal halide or both. good variable water flow to keep the mucus they shed off and their little polyps a movin! there is alot more but these are just some starter ideas to throw around. good luck, sps are my favorite too.

SPS is definitely more of a challenge in a small system. Try to find some common (inexpensive ones) to start with. Monti caps and green birdsnets come to mind as decent starter sps.

yep a small system is much more difficult for sps since they require stability and in a small system that is much harder to achieve. The best you can do is experiment with a few corals and see what happens.
It takes a long long time to build a coral reef. Step by step the reefs survive on partnerships. And the most important partners are you and I.

i have found that birds nest dont do well in a small tanks i lost 3 in my nano when my stag horn was growning like mad and it seems to happen over night with them
I have no fear of losing my life - if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it.

Stability is essential. Low and stable nutrients along with very stable alk and calcium will lead to success.
