Ricordia Meltdown

Soooo i keep a close eye on my water chemistry....i sold my mexican turbos back....got some other snails....now my corals aint getting messed with.....i thought..... then one morning i see that my crab...i think....has shoved my ricordia off the live rock and into the crushed coral....well i cant have that so ireached in and gently picked up my little friend and put him back where he belonged and gave my crab a darn good scolding he abruptly flipped me the claw and moved along up under some rock or whatever....anyways my ricordia is covered now with brown crap and seems to be melting into detrious...has my little friend been murdered...did i cause it....is it all over or what do i do?

Do a search on brown jelly for pics and see if that is what you are experiencing.

Is it ricordea florida or ricordea yuma?

if it is a flordia u shoud be ok... just blow it off under a power head and place it in a different location.if its a yuma..it might be in trouble..but u never know with yuma's..some u think are on their way out and they come right back..others can lok healthy one day and melt away the next day..

you know...... i think it just died.....i think it got picked up by my crab and moved into my elegance zone (knocked off of some live rock then down close to the elegance) he probably got hit in the night....little fella didnt even see it comin...hmmmm still learning this stuff....where to put it...how to keep it where i put it....and a little lesson about this crab.....so what do i do with this critter that needs to go? i think its the only thing left in the tank thats upsetting the vibe.

Ricordea in my experience aren't as easy to keep as one would think. Florida rics tend to be a bit hardier than yumas. I was hard bit by them several years ago...spent $$$'s and over a period from days to months watched them all either melt or whiter away. I haven't tried any in my current tank although I would like to.

What type of crab is it? I wouldn't be too quick to blame the crab. If the frag wasn't secured and just got knocked over, it could have been anything. Certainly a brush with something like an elegance would be a likely cause of the ricordea's demise.

im not sure....skyhigh knows ....he described it to me....has a pointed front end...and he is constantly trying to put things on his back.;;;;he is really ugly....looks like a barnacle
