Iodine is another factor that may limit Xenia growth. For those that have trouble with Xenia do you dose Iodine?
same here with xenia. i have a nice one that was one of my first corals. it covers stuff but doesnt have heads ect. a mat of polyps. since then i have tried pulsing xenia 3 times and it melts away. i would really like to try the red sea xenia now that i have halide too along with t5. though the xenia and toadstools and leathers are in my old tank under pc lighting.
my toadstool frags are taking off finally. except a green tyree that i just got. i am a little worried about that one. it is covered in algae right now but wont shed. my others did the same but they shed like they should and got rid of it. i was going to do a coral dip today to see if that helps.
yes, i dose iodine on the low side as i dont have a test for it. about half strength alternating w/ waterchanges every 2 weeks.
My xenia isn't growing that fast. I've had it for nearly 4 months and it has grown one more head, and the other two have gotten considerably taller. The pair of heads migrated up a rock and almost across my tank. I don't dose much except some phyto in that tank because it is so small. Upstairs where I have red sea pulsing xenia, we dose everything including iodine. That xenia has gone from 2 heads, to 6 or 7 since spring break. Crappy skimmer, 4-36W-t5ho's for the win!!! It's also pretty close to one of the two medium sized powerheads in the 46 bow.
