It's really a surprise and honor and just might get Mrs Binford to stop rubbing it in! April 2011 Tank of the Month by slapshot on 04-02-2011 I would like to thank the committee for this honor. My love of saltwater aquariums started when I was born in Southern California within a mile from the ocean. I grew up less than a block away. My father first took me diving when I was 10, I got my first aquarium shortly there after. My first beginnings in saltwater was 30, well lets just say "some" years ago. My humble 55-gallon with dead coral, turned into today what could conservatively be... Read more Leave A Comment |

February 2012 Tank of the Month by zachtos on 02-01-2012 My saltwater addiction began with pulsing pink xenia of all things. I graduated from college as an engineer with too much time on my hands so I began to study reefkeeping. This is not a good hobby for a perfectionist. You will never be FULLY satisfied but it is quite rewarding to grow beautiful colonies of corals from tiny fragments. The system is 5 years old but the coral is only 3 years old due to a plumbing mishap a while back. I am a... Read more Leave A Comment |

March 2012 Tank of the Month by estanoche on 02-29-2012 of Background... I have been reefkeeping since 2005. I really love learning all I can from forums, articles, and other published sources, and using a little ingenuity to get the job done! My first tank was a 90 gallon corner, I HATED it with a passion - and really all I hated about the tank was its dimensions... too wide for a good light (note, this was before LEDs were... 2011 Tank of the Year August 2011 Tank of the Month by daddybiggs on 07-31-2011 I would like to thank everyone at Captive Reefs for picking my tank as a TOTM. Its a little humbling when I see the other awesome tanks that have been featured. Its been a great run and I have met some great people and made some great friends. Hope to meet many more of you at the Flint Swap. Many of my corals originated in a 12-gallon Nanocube that I purchased in 2004. My upgrades have includes a 55-gallon Clarity hex tank. Then I... December 2011 Tank of the Month by mrs binford on 12-02-2011 I am very surprised and happy to be Tank of the Month. I read captive reefs a lot but don't respond or post much, I really enjoy the mix of reefers and see several other female members doing a great job. I started this hobby by way of a gift from my husband (binford4000) when we first met in 1991. My first tank was 125-gallon tall which I maintained for about 12 years, When... March 2011 Tank of the Month by 180reefer on 03-01-2011 First, all I can say is wow - me - tank of the month?! I find myself looking over my tank on a daily basis, and always looking at something out of place, saying "should I move this or that" - with my focus on the details I often don't think about the "big picture" and how my tank has come along. It's an honor being in the same class as the other beautiful tanks I have seen here on CaptiveReefs! ... Read more Leave A Comment |

June 2011 Tank of the Month by sullyman on 06-01-2011 I'd like to start by thanking Captive Reefs for featuring my tank as tank of the month. I've been in the saltwater hobby since 1983. I started with a 65-gallon tank and fish. Now I'm up to a 186 gallon tank full of SPS. It's been a long journey, but well worth it in my opinion. This tank is the fruit of all the years of work and experiences I've accumulated, that and all the help available online now. The system was set up in 2005, it was... Read more Leave A Comment |

May 2011 Tank of the Month by TM01 on 05-01-2011 My aquarium hobby started with a 120-gallon tank that housed African Cichlids in January 1996. I kept the cichlids for five years and decided to get into reefkeeping. After doing months of research I had the tank drilled for a closed loop and installed a internal overflow box. The tank was moved into the dining room and filled with live rock, sand and saltwater. I added 150-watt metal Halide and lighting and started testing my system waiting... Read more Leave A Comment |

November 2011 Tank of the Month by luisgo on 10-31-2011 I would like to thank Captive Reef for selecting my tank as tank of the month. Also thanks to my fellow reefers at AMEPR (our local Puerto Rico forum) for sharing this excellent hobby. I started keeping fish when I was a kid but my first reef tank started in 1990. I live in Puerto Rico and the sea is five minutes from home. My first tank was a piece of my backyard and all live rock I have today is the same rock in that first tank. My...
