I have some GSP growing on the shell of my maxima clam. It's starting to get pretty full, covering perhaps 10-15% of the shell, with some right under the mantle. The clam doesn't SEEM to mind it, the mantle extends there as much as any other area. But, I am a little worried about the interaction.
Should I try to remove the GSP? The only method I can think of is with a stainless steel wire brush (and a LOT of care). I don't really mind the look of the two together, I just want to do what is in the best interest of Stafford, the clam.
I don't have direct experience with GSP and clams... but I recall seeing photos of a clam surrounded by GSP and looking fine. So, I'm thinking Stafford should be fine.
