OMG you should see his RR Unique aka Nauti spiral monti :hypnodisk: I dream for mine to color up like that and I have @10" mini colony and frags placed everywhere!!!!

Thanks for the compliments Dave ! That monti is a real eye popper. Just another awesome knuckles frag going wild! The bleeding Lava chalice is still my all time favorite! It has gotten super brite red dots and they just explode off the dark base. My wife is always saying to me,you ok? Your just standing their starting at that dang thing! Oops my secret is out! I use a modified Vulcan brain trance everyday to force the corals to grow !! ROFL. :oldman:

I presently am getting PAR readings of 285 directly under the unit ,measuring off the sand bed. This would be the outer edges of the tank. In overlapped areas I am seeing 315 to 330 PAR off the sandbed. I am running both blues @ 100% and the whites @ 28%. In between the AI's I also am running 6 -454nm UV stunner strips with their reflectors. I think the stunners are helping much more then I ever expected . Recently I extended the timer on them so when AI's are off they would still be on. I was shocked how much they lit the tank up!!! It would be easy to credit the growth with these numbers and yes I think it does help. Kudos goes to Andy for his input on the blue glow theory. We have noticed a nice spurt of growth during the ramping of the blues to 100%. But personally I really think the growth is more from very strict water change practices and the food we use. I have totally rethought my feeding practices.

Growing well but fighting a wired brown algae on the sand bed that is very stubborn. Probably because the fish tank has been taking second fiddle to the Air tanks and fins. Headed to Key Largo soon so better get this under control before It becomes a problem !! Giving serious thought to changing to an all softy tank tho. Much less work would fit the lifestyle better !!

Strange as I'm having same issue. Thought it was diatoms what with the newness of the tank. But this actually adheres to the fine sand. Clumping it together like. Reason I'm adding PhosGaurd.

On another note, your corals look wonderful Chuck! Still can't believe it's just little over a year old! Amazing!! But then again look who's running it :)

I had a brown algae start on my sand and then on my candy canes. Im getting ready to do another water change. I'm not sure what it is but both colonies are practically gonners and they were so huge and beautiful.
It's so frustrating. About ready to hang it up

I think they have brown jelly but am not sure. It started with one colony just dropping over in 3 pieces. Then the neon started shriveling and the heads started dropping off. The tissue that is.

Thank you Tom,we do a 30 gallon water change every week. Every sixth week we do a sixty gallon change. That's it. Garbage can out and garbage can in,we spend on average about an hour a week doing Maintnace

Thanks everyone,she loves that scoley for sure.it has been eating like a pig. I am impressed how all the cornbread pieces took to our tank. I was very concerned of how they would do with our lighting and flow. These are the most expensive pieces we have ever purchased! The coloring is just unbelievable. We also removed all of the MP40's and now are running two max spect Gyre's. The flow from these is like nothing I have ever seen or been able to accomplish. All in all pretty happy with how things are going! Knock on wood

Well been working out of town all week and the wife sent me a picture of the new look of the tank. She decided if she was getting stuck with the water change she would rearrange the tank??? Hey, she did the water change(50gallons) so I'm not complaining!! Lol

Can we get a before and after in the same post? Its too hard for me to see the difference going back and forth between posts.

Tx Jamie,we love the Gyre's! So much we sold all the vortex. PE has been awsome and the LPS has really swelled up nicely. Only issue we have had with them is one controller went bad,but Coral Vue's staff sent one out right away. Other issue is they're to strong. Lol yup I said that. These things well rearrange a sand bed in no time at all!!
We are now running one horizontally and one vertically. When they go in wave or pulse mode we actually get a surge in the middle of the tank! Sweet!!!!

We have decided to simplify our bio load. The SPS dominated tank does not fit our present lifestyle. Needed to choose between our diving or maintaing the demands of the tank. As much as we enjoyed the tank the ability to travel out weighed the enjoyment of the tank. We will be converting mainly to fish only with some simple low demand LPS and palley's from here out. It was either that or shut it down!

There are so many easy to maintain LPS and Polyps to be collected these days.

Well been awhile. So here's an update. Went to Bonaire,trusted the WRONG person to tank sit. Total crash,we have lost just about everything but the fish. Coral wise we have a few frog spawn and some pallets. Everything else has died. Taking the summer off!! Had some health issues again,looking better tho then it did tank wise and health wise. Going to dive and relax for the summer and just concentrate on getting the water back to how it should be. Oh and do lots of riding! See you when it's fall!

well here's a picture of what survived the worst tank sitter ever !! When someone lets the Alkalinty drop to 6.1 dkh you come home to a really ugly tank!! Picked the last of dead carcasses out today and changed 50 gallons of water. We have now changed 450 gals of water in the last few months. Alk and Calcium doasing has become stable and PH has finally dropped from 8.7 to 8.2 and is staying there. Added ATM's bacteria today to promote nitrifying cycle (figure it can't hurt anything)so we are going to leave it be and do another water change in a few weeks! Enjoy my pretty tank! ROFL. With friends like that guy ,life is just grand. Don't even want to think of the $$$ that this person killed.

Do you have an inland saw? I do have a couple sweet acans that are close to the quality you lost, and would be happy to cut them in 1/2 for ya, and you already know I have some zoas that would be happy to go to your tank.

Well the tank has been sold and we will be offically former reefers on the 23rd of December. I am sure Hopkins will have plenty of sucesses with this system. Want to say goodbye to everyone and it has been a pleasure to meet and chat with people who are so passionate about this hobby. After 25+ years its time to go, it has been fun! and the wife and I will be peeking in from time to time!(between dives lol) Best of luck to CR and everyone who makes this fourm what it is!!

Hard to get better then those two !!! Fiji is awsome tho!!! Your going to see the best of both worlds Fiji is softy heaven and Australia is just jaw dropping. We are going to be staying home this winter and get the remodeling hopefully done so the house is ready for the market.I am planning to goto Marathon in the spring for a memorial of a dive buddy that passed and spend some time in the Key Largo coral farm and help transplant in the state park. We broke the bank and got dry suits so we"re going to be doing a lot of great lake diving.I finished my tech 1 cert so I am going to be going deep and cold this year lol Take care
