Another option would be to check the username filterdirect on eBay, they have complete 6 stage RO/DI units for $80-90. Many of us here run that unit and have had excellent results.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#How often do you check the water for the ph and tds? What equipment or hand heldsdo you recommend to check these levels? I got my tank and quarantine tank set up, now it's just making sure the water I use to replenish is clean. I got to purchase some kind of test equipment. Just to throw this question out there, I got a testing kit for my tank and I'm sure you know it has a ph tester, do you guys use that or should I get a separate digital tester that I don't stick into the tank itself or how do you do it? My 20 gallon tank needs water pretty much everyday.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Clem#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
I purchased a TDS meter with the RO/DI unit... I test the TDS once a month or so, if I think about it, usually if I start seeing more orange than green in the DI resin tells me it's time to keep an eye in things.
pH I usually test at the tank, one of these days I'll get around to ordering a pinpoint digital meter for now I just use a couple of different test kits. I suppose I really should try to get back in the habit of testing my salt mix and make up water more often for more than just nitrates. I just sort of spot check things, one of these days it'll bite me I'm sure.
