nice to meet u britty.... icons stand looks real good my wife is not into the fish yet hopfully she will come aroundlike your is its fun when you can do things together.......
I was gonna wait and do a Bigger update, but I figured I would keep it smaller.
The holidays slowed me down, alot, but Now, I'm back rolling again. The stand is 85% done.
The canopy is also nearing completion! I lost about an inch of head room in it due to miscuts and lack of wood to redo it, but I still should have about 5 inches between the bulbs and the water surface. I think that will be okay, especially with the amount of air I'm going to have moving in this bad boy!
Enough rambling... Here's the's pix!

looks good , no heat problem there with all the fans
Lots o' fans :) That will likely increase your evaporation rate to some pretty high levels, keeping your ATO busy.... but that's generally a good thing.
Alright, I've decided to add a sump into the mix here. I'm thinkin a diy 20gal sump.
I've ordered a hotb 600gph overflow with a lift pump to keep the syphon in tact.
I need to place a dry goods order for an aqualifter (for teh ATO), a return pump, some epoxy for aquascaping, and possibly a pair of bulkheads, and a second pump for a CLM that I'm considering.
What I'm not sure on is which pumps should I go with for the return and the CLM? I was thinking either mag 5/7s or quiet one 3000s. What do you all think?
dr fosters &smith treated me realy good and have good prices aqulift pump is only $10.ooand my 5 gal of instant ocean was only $29.49.......the more you order shipping gets cheaper
Alright! Another small update! I placed the drygoods order mentioned above, after talking to greg and dave (dakar). I ordered a Quiet One 1200 for the return from the sump, and a Quiet One 3000 for a Closed loop. I also picked up a pair of 1" bulkheads, and some epoxy for my rock scaping. I picked up an aqualifter pump for my ATO as well.
Yesterday, I found a VERY well priced LFS who also provides great customer service. By far the best one yet. I ordered an additonal Aqualifter from them for the overflow box, as well as 2 x 20lb bags of sugar-fine aragronite sand. I just didnt' want to deal with a diatom bloom that has the possibality of re-occuring. They also sell LR at $5.00 / lb and also offer "white rock" that is in the same tank as the LR, so its already beginning to get coraline on it, and that is $3.00 / lb. I may buy 1/2 and 1/2 or 3/4 of LR and 1/4 white.
I then, found ANOTHER LFS that opened up last month that has a very nice livestock selection. I picked up my sump tank from them (20g high). I'll be back there as well.
From there, I went to home depot and got all of the PVC fittings (valves, elbows, and T's) for the CLM, return lines, and overflow drain. I also grabbed a 3'x4' piece of 1/4" thick acrylic for the sump as well as a piece of egg crate, and some LocTite - aquarium safe silicon, and some pvc cement.
So, I've created alot more work for the project, but it should be a fun, learning experience and I'm really lookin foward to it. I hope to get to work on it tonight.
Here's a pice of my sump design!

As always, feedback will be greatly appreaciated!
Thanks!

looks good i like the graff you on your way get lots of pics..
Over the past 2 days, I've gotten a lil more done! The canopy is coming along well. I've gotten all of the fans in place and wired up. Then, last night, I started putting in the endcaps for the T5 lights. I got 3 of the 4 sets of those put in place and the wires ran. I've also gotten some more coats of stain on both the canopy and door. I've also gotten my first coat of poly on the stand itself, both inside and out!
I've recieved my pumps, epoxy, overflow box, and bulkheads. One of the bulkheads came without a nut, so I called pet solutions and they're sending out a whole new one! Now, I just need to find a nut somewhere to fit the other bulkhead so I'll have an extra.
Yesterday, I went to Home Depot, and last night, I went to Lowes! I picked up some cool stuff at both places. Including:
digital mulitmeter,
140-tooth sawblade for cutting my acrylic for the sump,
2 diamond-tipped dremel-tool bits for cutting the hole for the CLM,
some waterproof wire nuts,
3 GFCI outlets,
water-proof boxes and faceplates for those,
some 1/2" flex tubing to feed the boxes to help keep the water out,
more cheese cloth for staining
3/4" cable clamps.
Here's the pix of those:
