    Default 45 gal tank ?

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I am purchasing a new 45 gal tank and i was wondering if a hang on protein skimmer would be sufficient enough instead of having to get a sump tank.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

that is an option and astetic question. do you want it to be seen or not i don't know for certain if there is a benifit of either but for a clean looking tank i like nothing to be seen but what needs to be. Right or wrong its your tank to make how you want it.

I have the Remora Pro with the Mag 3 pump (HOB) on my 44 gallon tank and it seems to do a pretty good job. I am thinking of making a sump later to hide everything though.

a sump is allways a good thing to have for a couple of reasons:
    1. it incrases your water volume
    2. you can hide a lot of equipment
    3. gives your pods a safe place to populate
    4. good place to dose your tank if the situation is needed

I agree with the above points.I've ran both types of reef tanks(sump, sumpless) with both being successful but having a sump makes things so much easier.

I have a berlin turbo that i like i got it as part of a deal before that i ran a seaclone that was a hang on or that sat in the sump it was a little difficult to get the proper water level and have it work well for me but it worked.
