you are probably getting a diatom bloom, this is natural and shows your tanks is cycling what are the parameters of your tank? do you have any critters in there? but this is a good thing you may even have come coraline growing.

    Default 20 gallon

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#what does or hard or soft mean. It is just like the purple growth except light green. It is a 20 gallon long tank. I have a bakpak protein skimmer and a powerhead. I also have a couple turbo snails and 10 small snails. I had some brown algae growth but it disappeared. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#P#ed_cl#If it wont come of if you scrape it with your finger nail it is probable good#ed_op#BR#ed_cl#if it comes of if you just rub over it with your finger usually bad.#ed_op#BR#ed_cl##ed_op#BR#ed_cl#That is a little simple but usually right#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#Sounds like yours is good#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Agreed....JerryC has given you good advice. I have some green along with the purple on our live rock. It's another form of coraline algae if it's hard. It's actually quite pretty, but will eventually cover over with the purple coraline.

What Jerry is saying by the "soft" kind, is the green slimy kind causing a coating that scrapes off. The same as the algae that builds up on the glass in a tank that your snails help keep under control. That is typical green algae that you don't want.
