It is definitely not a perfect report but it is much better than what the general public had before the rule was enacted. When I operated and managed utilities we tried to be as open and transparent as possible. We would hold open houses, give tours of our facilities, offer citizen workshops, provide internships for high school students and much more to get them involved and informed. Like I said before, I would get dozens of calls and referrals a month from aquarists who lived in our service areas asking about water quality issues and I would often invite them down to view the treatment process firsthand so they could take the knowledge back to their friends and local clubs. Still, afet all that I still recommended RO/DI for saltwater hobbyists as you never know what goes on in the distribution system and Mother Nature is not always nice when it comes to weather which changes treatment techniques and final water quality.
I still give talks and speak at seminars about water quality and am active in the AWWA and stale level water and wastewater organizations even though I no longer operate plants or train operators and maintenance staff. I have kept all my certifications up to date and will even be going to Nevada for training later in September to gain CEU and PDH hours for my certificate renewals. I will never be out of the water business!
