Standpipe Buoy??

Im not sure what this piece is called, but I don't think I've ever had it in there correctly. I got my tank from someone else and he never explained
how this piece is supposed to fit in the stand pipe.

it looks like a plastic buoy with a small hole in the top and an opened angled bottom about 3 inches long, the bottom looks like a needle if it were very large. It seems like it controls how much water is going into the standpipe in my overflow. I assume this is to quiet down the water flowing into the standpipe but the other day, it seemed to have gotten stuck in the stanpipe. It was blocking the standpipe slits and water was only trickling to my wet/dry, water was being returned faster than it was draining, the overflow box flooded and the tank level rose almost to the level of spilling over the top.

Can anyone tell me what this piece is or how it is supposed to fit in there?

Pic please or check out!! Hofer Gurgle Buster Construction! A peice like this would do the same thine if you have a HOB overflow. Or do a search on standpipes here. I'll be more than willing to try to help if you can get me some pics!!

Sorry bud I have never seen that set-up. I would be more than glad to help tou set up something else if you arn't happy with this but that is all I could do!

Interesting...... Never seen one, but I can understand how is should work, water level rises so the buoy allowing more water to pass, water level down less water... makes sense but over time I can see some failure points.

The self starting siphon of a standpipe would be a lot more reliable.

this fits into the standpipe that has about 8 have inch slits in it. this does quiet down the water flow, just kind of weird.
