    Default Bubble Tip looks dead

Yesterday I came into work and my bubble tip looked to have tears or something in it. It was closed and today it is getting smaller and smaller. Last friday I fed it a piece of silverside and it was open and happy. What could have happened over the weekend? What should I do with the remains?

it maa just be expelling old water from inside itself. anemonies do this periodicly, they will expell old water and replenish with new water. i would keep an eye on it for a couple of days. if no changes let us know.

for future referance ... pics help a lot !!

Chris, if you have tears in it, a shrimp or hermit (if you have them in yoru tank) may have torn the guy up trying to get at the food. I would keep a close eye on him, if he does die they will pollute a tank very very quickly. if it looks like he is not gonna make it I would suggest just taking him out of the tank. you dont want to risk contaminating the rest of the tank.

Is it still attached to its rock? I had a long tentacle anemone that died, and before it did it detached from its rock and rolled around in the current. That's when I knew it was on its way out.

Does yours look anything like the picture below? That is my bubble tip expelling waste. At first, it really freaked me out to see it like that, but once I realized that it was a normal function I calmed down. She split for me several months ago and looked awful during that time, too. I have lost the pictures of that event, but here is a link to some pics that you might find interesting: http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0304/bta_split.html

As Greg said, keep a close eye on it and remove it when necessary. Good luck, and keep us posted!
