Calcium Question

I would appreciate some advice regarding the addition of calcium? I have a jar of Kent Turbo-Calcium but I'm leery of overdosing. My budget won't permit a reactor.

Its definitely better to err on the side of caution. You should test for calcium and alkalinity if you are going to add it. How much to add can't really be determined simply by tank volume as the corals you keep (number and quantity) will dictate the calcium demand in your system. You will also probably want to add alkalinity to the water. Baking soda is commonly used for this purpose.

All of this isn't as difficult as it sounds and once you get a "feel" for your cal/alk demand you can get away with dosing with less frequent testing.

Thank you for the reply. It is a bit daunting trying to increase either the alkalinity or calcium without some type of instruction. I can check both values but do not know the proper amount to add when my values are not what they should be.
