    Default Cone?

I have been thinking of replacing my skimmer with a newer one, I currently run a Euro Reef with a sedra 5000 pump. I have been thinking of trying a cone type skimmer because of the smaller footprint, my question is are the skimmers for real? or are they just a flash in the pan gimmick? If you have one, is it performing well or is it just "ok" for what you want from a skimmer.

I have an ATB medium cone and it flat rocks. Nasty, dark skim, real nasty. I run a pro-biotic tank with prodibio and VSV and I couldn't be happier with how that skimmer works. As you can tell I am impressed. I can't say for sure the cone technology is any better than a good cylindrical skimmer but they do work very well.

What I like about the cone is the pump is inside the unit, which makes the footprint small.

I don't have a cone but I heard that they are supposed to force bubbles or channel them thru the cone with less turbulence.

Here is a link to them

I have had 2 cones, the SWC 250, the one with 2 Sicce pumps, and the Warner Marine K2. The SWC was to large for my system, however it did pull some nasty skimmate. The Warner however, WOW that thing pulled the nastiest funk I have ever seen. It draws only 21W and for that, you get top notch performance. This skimmer had as close to ZERO turbulence as I think you can get, the bubbles came out of the plate and rose STRAIGHT up, no swirling, no bubble collision to knock DOC's off the surface.

In my opinion the cones are the way to go!
