I am wondering how many of you quarantine new corals before placing them in your display.
If you do, why and for how long?
If you don't, why?
If you do sometimes, which ones do you QT and why?
Yes
No
Sometimes

We don't, but we really should, with as many corals we've collected so far it would really suck to bring something bad into one of the tanks.
For LPS,I don't q-tine.For Acropora spp,I q-tine for red-bugs with Interceptor. For the Acropora FW's,i'm still experimenting with an effective treatment.
Thanks all for the input so far!
When I started learning about marine systems last year, I didn't see much about QTing corals. Recently, however, I am seeing more evidence of people doing it, and I was wondering how many of you guys do!
I haven't yet... What does the freshwater dip with iodine do?
Great topic!
A freshwtaer dip is not needed or would i consider doing one for most of your corals.Iodine dips are not needed and are stressful too.The only time a coral should be dipped is if you are trying to kill a disease/parasite that is known.Originally Posted by Fally
i used a freshwater dip on a frogspawn coral that was covered in flatworms. The coral handled the dip well and no more flatworms.Iodine can be effective for brown jelly infections and some other "diseases" but i'd only use it if you are CERTAIN the coral has a "disease"
once I get a tank really going, I will probubly do quarantine but thus far all I'm doing is zoanthids, star pollups, macros, and shrooms......not really "dangerous" stuff![]()
