#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I am new to this site and to reefing in general. I am currently running a 12 gal reef system. It's been running for a little over a year. I have had almost no problems with this tank, water chem always perfect good coralline growth etc.I have a 75 gal fresh water tank and I am regretting not making it a reef tank. Could any one give me some guidance about making the change over. 12 gal has 1&1/2 inch of live sand @25 lbs live rock, spaced so no dead flow areas, fluval 204 canister, no sponges in canister only live rock(crushed) and carbon. Lighting is @6watts/gal including actinic, No halides. 50watt in tank heater, no powerheads flow from canister gives plenty of water movement. What are the problems with using this type of set up on a 75 gal? #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
For a 75gal,you will need approximately a 20-25x turnover rate for a low/mod current reef. That is 1875gph,this current needs to be inside the tank, not through the sump.A 5-600gph(after head loss) return pump from the sump with a couple SEIOS 820's powerheads/pumps should do the trick.
