If it wasn't for bad luck....
If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any at all. I finally got the canopy built for the 47G coulumn Sea Horse tank. I installed a 250W 20K MH Retro kit into the canopy and all was well. I planned to move the corals over to this tank on Wednesday. (Tomorrow) About 1/2 hr. ago I was sitting next to the tank when the tank went dark and I heard a POP. The lamp / bulb exploded. I just spent the last 20 mins. trying to get tiny and not so tiny pieces of glass out of the tank. This tank is 31" from top to bottom, no easy task. I think I got all of it.
There was powdery stuff in the bulb, will this effect anything in the tank? (mainly my sea horses?) It seems like the lamp exploded from the inside. I have a magnum 350 canister filter on this tank that has carbon in it. Is there anything else I should be aware of?
I'm so afraid that I missed tiny pieces of glass and the sea horses may get cut or "snick" it up at some point. I looked as close as I could and I didn't see any, but there's always a chance that I missed some tiny pieces.
This bulb was barely used!!! It was used for 4 months then I added actinic vho's to my 125 so I didn't need the 20K's anymore. (I reboxed them and put them away for future use) I switched to 10K's after that. Any ideas why the bulb would break? It was 14" from the top of the water so I know it didn't get splashed.
