It's been a while since we just caught up with one another. So how's your tank doing? What's new? What's different? Do you have any before and after pictures?
My 280g reef is over 4.5 years old now. The past year has been its best, and the tank is currently peaking due to very good water quality. I've been dosing Vodka for 9.5 months, and it has helped bring nitrate down and keep phosphate under control, for the most part.
Here's my tank in April 2007, two years ago:
And here it is in April 2009, two years later:
I stopped using GFO at least 10 months ago.
My 12 year old clownfish died about six months ago. She was my first fish, and her death was untimely. She acted fine, was laying eggs, eating well and very active. The next day I found her in a giant cocoon, bloated badly. I don't know what happened.
A few months ago, I finally installed a manifold with its own external pump to feed everything. Love removing about 9-12 pumps from my sump:
I have a smaller 20g angled tank that is tied into this system, as well as a pico suncoral tank. The main system keeps those satellite systems cared for, so I don't have to do anything special for them.
good to see the tank doing so well marc. looks very very stable and happy. not having a tank is driving me nuts but I have my hands sooo full with doing a couple custom tanks. there is anew hospital going up in a town next to me and I get to put in their 1200 gallon tank... its nice to spend other peoples money.
Boise, the capital is doing a public aquarium and I have been helping with that which has been a joy.
