Is algae really the root of all evil in our tanks?

Why are there so many threads where people ask "What is this horrible stuff and how do I get rid of it?"

Is it possible that maybe we don't know a good thing when we see it?

Suzy, I haven't seen many (actually any that I can think of) macro algae hater threads over here.

What types are you refering to that people dislike?

Thanks, JoJo. That is very kind of you.

Renee, I did not mean to insinuate that this site does not appreciate macroalgae. I was hoping that a thread discussing the virtues, benefits and basic gorgeousness of algae could start here.

Sorry, just a silly botched joke. I am a Democrat, after all!

I have macro in all my tanks. My fuzzy lion tank is the BEST! I even have some nusiance algae that is in there because it's purdy. It hasn't grown out of control at all and I'm sure it's because of all the competition.

We are starting a Pipefish lagoon and of course the macro is essential. To supply it and other tanks we are going to start some algae prop tanks.

There are tanks were it doesn't belong IMO, except maybe in the sump.

I don't know if I REALLY want to admit this, but...
I have some various algaes growing here and there, and I have not removed them. Why? I find them interesting! I KNOW I wouldn't remove any as pretty as what you've shown in your pics, Suzy!!!
